Because of its proximity to Huaraz, the pretty Laguna Churup Trek is a very good day-tour to acclimatize to the higher altitude, before participating in a longer trekking.

Close to Huaraz city, you find Churup Peak and at its feet, the Churup lagoon, also known as “Lake of the Seven Colors”, for its variety of greens and turquoises defined when the rays of the sun reach it. During the trail, it’s possible to see a panoramic view from Huaraz city, Cashan and Shaqsha peaks, and also appreciate beautiful waterfalls and vertical rock walls into the canyon that takes us to the lake.

Itinerary of the Laguna Churup Huaraz Trek:

Very early in the morning you are picked up from your hotel in Huaraz and transferred towards Pitec hamlet, located about 1 hour from Huaraz city and the starting point of the Churup Trek. The trail ascents by a ridge, not very steep, in direction to the Churup Peak with views of the Cashan and Shaqsha peaks, followed by a path goes into a canyon where you can appreciate beautiful waterfalls.

After 2 or 3 hours walking, you’ll arrive to the most difficult point of the route, a 30 meter ascent without difficulty for a 70° slope (if it is required, the guide will take a rope). Then there is a walk of 20 minutes leading to the lake, where you will have enough time to rest, lunch and take pictures.

The descent to Pitec takes about 2 hours; it is the place where the transportation waits to take you back to Huaraz city. Arrival in your hotel in Huaraz around 16:30 h.
