The Iquitos Jungle Adventure

This basic, but unique 6D/ 5N Amazon program, has an itinerary full of adventure. It’s local name is “A Full Cayman and Dolphin Experience within the Pacaya Samira National Reserve”. The base for this tour is the Dolpin Lodge, located on the shores of the Yarapa River, at 240 km from Iquitos, deep into the Pacaya Samiria Amazon Reserve

Day 1: Iquitos


Iquitos customized Amazon toursArriving in Iquitos and transfer to your hotel.
Iquitos is an interesting and unique metropolitan and is considered to be the biggest city in the world without access roads over land. It is definitely worth to go for a walk, explore the city and the floating market and try to catch a taste of its many jungle flavors.
After that it is time to relax and to prepare yourself for an unforgettable jungle experience!

Day 2: Iquitos - Nauta - Yarapa River - Pacaya Samira National Reserve - Dolphin Lodge


Iquitos Amazon Dolphin Lodge7:00 am. Pick up from the hotel for your transfer to Nauta city. On the way you will see several small agricultural villages. The trips is about 1:45 hrs.
– We travel by typical boat to the DOLPHIN LODGE which is located at 2hours and 30 minutes from Nauta along the YARAPA RIVER. To get there we will follow the rivers MARAÑON, AMAZON and UCAYALI and have the option to spot pink fresh water dolpins. Upon your arrival you will be given information of the programs.
– Lunch.
– Visit the Amazonia village to observe their daily activities.
– After dinner the guide will take you on an nocturnal excursion by canoe, to look for caimans and watch other different nocturnal species.
– Night in the Lodge.

Day 3: Yarapa River - Pacaya Samira National Reserve


Pink dolphins Amazon Iquitos PeruEarly in the morning you can join a jungle hike, to watch different species in their own habitat.
– After breakfast you can join an excursion by motor boat along the YARAPA RIVER for Piranha fishing, watching birds and other animal species.
– Lunch.
– We have included a special Amazon jungle hike with information about medicinal plants and how to survive in the jungle, using the elements of the area.
– After dinner, the guide will take you to a nocturnal hike to show you different kind of insects, frogs and other nocturnal species
– Night in the Lodge.

Day 4: Pacaya Samira National Reserve


monkeys Iquitos Amazon tourYou can join a very early canoe ride to watch different/species of birds waking up in their own habitat.
– Breakfast, fishing for piranhas and other species like the Cat fish, tucunare, Bujurquis and Acarahuasu in a lake near the Lodge.
– Lunch
– A jungle hike through the Amazon Rainforest, to spot monkeys and squirrels in their own habitat and see the water plants known as Victoria AMAZONICA (Victoria Regia)
– A trip with canoe through the native villages that lead into the heart of primitive jungle in order to explore and study biological diversity of Amazonia
– Back to lodge for Supper
– Option to talk/ discus about experiences and the legends in the Amazon

Day 5: Pacaya Samira National Reserve (CAMPING) - Breakfast


Sloth in Amazon Iquitos PeruAt indicated time, there is a trip to the campsite where you can watch a great variety of fauna and flora and the famous sloths in their own habitat
Later, you can watch and learn about the different insects, palm trees, the famous rubber tree, etc. on the campsite.
– Dinner at the campsite.
– At night you will be staying on this campsite at night and you can chose to join a night trip in order to search for different kinds of fauna and flora species, like caimans, frogs, night monkeys, night birds and fish that is endemic to the Amazon.

Day 6: Pacaya Samira National Reserve - Yarapa River - Nauta - Iquitos

– Lunch
– Going back to Nauta at an indicated time, and continue by private transport to Iquitos.
– You will end this program/tour in our office in Iquitos between 16:00 till 17:00h.
Optional: to fly directly back to Lima (LAN at 19:20h).

Recommendations for your stay in the Amazon rainforest jungle:
1. Bring lightweight long sleeves, flared trousers, windproof jacket, hat, sunglasses, water bottle, hiking shoes, flashlight, insect repellent, sunscreen for in the jungle and clothing for your stay in the ‘hot and humid’ city according to your taste. In case of rain, the operator will provide rubber boots and plastic ponchos at local cost. Note: Boots bigger than size 44 are more difficult to get in Peru.

2. Inform your travel agent about any restrictions on food and / or any health condition, to avoid complications during your stay in the jungle.

3. Vaccinations: Please ask your local health centre about the required vaccinations.

4. Luggage; You can leave your luggage and valuables in the storage at our office in Iquitos on the days that you go to the jungle, free of charge.
Don’t take too many valuables with when you go out in Iquitos.

5. The company is not responsible for lost or stolen valuables and other items that are not stored in the save or luggage deposit.

6. The Lodge has a generator, which runs at certain times of the day to charge the batteries of electronic equipment such as cameras, phones, etc..

7. Rainy Season: November to July, each passenger should bring rain protection.

8. Summer season (no rain): July to November (Beaches in the Amazon, wearing swimsuits and fishing season).

9. RAPD EXCURSIONS: Obey and respect the guide’s instructions; stay close to the group and don’t take off on your own, this increases the changes that something unpleasant happens to you (getting lost bitten etc.),
