Huaraz, Janya and Mullaca Trek

During this adventures trekking you visit in only 3 days some of the most beautiful and yet not very touristic lakes in the Cordelia Blanca Mountain Range around Huaraz. Admire the beauty of Laguna Janya and Mullaca and enjoy their peaceful surroundings!

Day 1: Huaraz – Huilliac – Laguna Janya (3400 m – 4500 m)

Laguna Janya and Mullaca Trek HuarazAfter leaving Huaraz we travel north to the town of Paltay. From there we turn east through the Valley of Ishinca until we arrive at a village that’s called Huillac. At this small village we meet the muleteers, who help us to tie our camping equipment on the back of the mules.
Then it is time to start our trek in the south/ east direction of Huillac.
After a beautiful hike of around 4 hours we arrive at an altitude of 4500 m. Here, at the feet of the snowcapped Janyaraju mountain (5630 m) and surrounded by rocky walls and queñuales (species of the polylepis tree) forest we find Laguna Janya. We set camp close to this well hidden lake prepare our dinner and get an early night of sleep in this beautiful surrounding.

Day 2: Laguna Janya – Laguna Mullaca (4500 m – 4600 m)

Laguna Janya and Mullaca TrekkingAfter a good breakfast we start for a moderate hike. The trail is not very steep, but we will hike mostly over irregular rocky grounds through isolated landscapes and at a high altitude. It might feel like being alone on the world, surrounded by black rocks and snowcapped mountains.
After hiking for 5 to 7 hours we reach an impressive turquoise color lake, surrounded by a wall of rocks. It is the first of the two Mullaca lakes. The second Mullaca lake lies at the feet of the snowcapped Vallunaraju (5686 m) mountain. This will be our special high altitude (4600 m) campsite for tonight.

Day 3: Laguna Mullaca – Recresh – Huaraz (4600 m – 3400 m)

Lake view Laguna Janya and Mullaca Trek Today we wake up early to start our hike when nature wakes up. From Laguna Mullaca the trail descents through a mysterious forest of queñuales trees. Walking through this unique type of forest of sinuous trees with papery bark makes you feel like walking in a fairytale.
The trail continues through the glacier valley, along a small creek with crystal clear water and surrounded by cloud forest and impressive rocks!
Snowcapped mounten Laguna Janya Trek After leaving the forest our trail turns into an irrigation channel, which is easy to walk through, so you can concentrate on appreciating the impressive surroundings!
The channel takes us to the small lake of Radian, known for bird watching, at the north side of the San Cristobal Mountain.
From the lake we continue our trek to the small village of Recresh (3400 m). Here we unpack the mules and walk to the town of Wilkawain, from where we drive back to Huaraz.

Recommendations for a good acclimation:
